Meet ROADIES: The people who drive on the wrong side of the road

There has been a steady rise in the number of vehicles driving on the wrong side of the road. This unusual practice has garnered a lot of followers in recent months. Further investigation has revealed that there is more than meets the eye.

A group of individuals who call themselves ‘ROADIES,’ strongly believe that WE have been driving on the wrong side of the road all this time and they aim at unraveling the truth behind this conspiracy to the entire nation.

These ROADIES have been driving on the wrong side of the road since mid-2017. They started out as a relatively small group but soon, gained followers exponentially. According to a recent survey conducted by the National Traffic Control of India (NTCI), an approximate number of vehicles driving on the opposite side of the road is 200 vehicles per hour!

“When they say, ‘Tu Roadie banega?! Harr koi nahi bann sakta hai roadie (Do you have what it takes to be a Roadie? It is not meant for everybody)’ they mean it. It is a game of risk every single day - escaping cops, evading oncoming traffic and most importantly hiding your number plate from those snitches who tweet it to the Traffic Police,” said one of the roadies.

“It’s all a government conspiracy and I can prove it: Whenever I drive on the opposite side of the road, I reach my destination faster! If I reach my destinations faster, I’ll be more productive, and, in that way, the country will progress! But the government doesn’t want that to happen. Look at European countries, their roads are on the opposite side, so that way, their countries have been progressing as well,” said the Vice Chief Executive President King of ROADIES. Upon explaining to him how only the steering of European vehicles is on the other side, the gentleman responded by saying, “This, I can't help you with. You need perspective to understand the bigger scam that is going on.”

Most people haven’t succumbed to this apparent madness. “This is absolute bullshit! Today, they are saying that we’re driving on the wrong side of the road, tomorrow they will say that the Earth spherical but bulging at the equator. So, are we supposed to believe everything? If they are saying that other countries have opposite roads, then they should go live there. Why are they here? I, for once, like a little bit of traffic in my day,” said Mr. Ninetofive, a local death metal guitarist.

Traffic control has responded to this NOW, by increasing the number of traffic policemen at every crossroad. They say, "We didn't know that this was a part of the job."

Mr. Patil, a traffic policeman who has spent 10 years guiding traffic at Juhu Circle was in two minds about this whole new phenomenon. He says, “I have seen many things in the past 10 years. From catching people with tinted windows to seeing 5 people on the same bike with one woman holding a baby in her arms. But this, this is new even for me. Whenever I catch people driving on the opposite side of the road, they try to convince me that I am standing on the wrong side of the road. I fell for it 4 or 5 times at best. But now, I know better.”

Man is one inconvenience away from starting a rebellion. Is the government hiding something from us? Will this conspiracy theory lead to something much bigger? Only time will tell. Till then, the next time you see someone driving on the opposite side of the road, make sure you tweet their number plate to traffic control.
